WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The #RV HU women’s basketball team suffered its worst loss of the season Wednesday evening at Odle Arena compliments of #16 Taylor University (20-9, 13-4). The Trojans got the job done on both ends of the court to hand the Foresters a 69-51 loss.

Taylor boasts the league’s second most potent offense and that rang true against the Foresters as they opened up an early double-digit lead behind their go to Kendall Bradbury and never looked back. The 5-11 forward, currently ranked #2 in the NAIA in scoring with her 23-point average, scored the hosts’ first six points on the way to posting a game-high 23 points.

It was a night that everything seemed to be clicking for TU as their defense was just as effective. They limited kept Culler’s crew to just 33.3 percent shooting (17-for-51) for the game while forcing 19 turnovers for 23 points to make for the lopsided affair.

Hailey Krewald’s first of three first half triples just over a minute into the contest gave Huntington its only lead of the night at 3-2. The Trojans countered with 11 unanswered points to hit the first double-digit lead of 13-3 midway through the quarter.

While HU gave up just two points over the next five minutes to close to within two by the first break, it didn’t take TU too long to establish another ten-point advantage in the second quarter. Once that happened, there was no going back as Taylor’s lead camped in double digits, extending to as many as 23 in the second half, before the 18-point spread by the final buzzer.

Sarah Fryman finished with 12 points to lead Huntington. Krewald scored 11 points, all in the opening twenty minutes, to go along with a game-best eight rebounds and four assists. Maddie Richer posted 11 points, three assists and two steals.

In addition to Bradbury’s 23 points, Cassidy Wyse and Aubrey Wright added 12 and 11 points respectively for the Trojans.

With one regular season game remaining, a home game with Mount Vernon on Saturday, Huntington (16-12, 9-8) is sitting fifth in the league standings.
