The Forester track team spent the weekend competing at the Don & Riley Zimmer Classic hosted by Trine University where the men claimed third and the women took fourth.

Adam Woods headlined the HU men by winning the heptathlon with 4,109 points. Highlighting his performance was taking first in pole vault (4.15m) and posting second place finishes in the 60 meters (7.33), long jump (6.06m) and shot put (10.62m).

Peyton Depriest also had a memorable outing by establishing a new school record in the 400 meters with his fourth-place finish time of 50.98. The previous record was 51.07 held by Kam Bailey from 2008.

Avniel Barrow earned points in both sprints, finishing 3rd in the 60 meters (7.13) and 6th in the 200 meters (23.22). The Foresters earned 19 points in the 600 meters by claiming spots two, three and four. Elijah Chesterman took 2nd (1:27.11), CJ Robertson placed 3rd (1:28.46) and Kaleb Bickel clocked in 4th (1:39.49).

Two other Foresters earned a top four finish. Cody Wiersema claimed 4th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:02.75 while Zach Williams’ toss of 39-07 in shot put landed him 4th place as well.

Other point-getters for Huntington included Adrien Gentrie in the mile (7th, 4:45.25), Kody Ahrens in the 5,000 meters (7th, 16:58.28), Luke Fillers in pole vault (6th, 12-05.75), Tyler Truelock in shot put (7th, 38-00.75) and weight throw (6th, 32-05) and Ryan Lockhart in weight throw (5th, 33-05).

Trine ran away with the men’s title with 233 points followed by Indiana Tech Developmental (116), HU (82), Adrian (69), Indiana Tech B (43) and Rochester (3).

The Forester women had its strongest outing in field events where Breanna Metz earned ten points in high jump with her leap of 4-05.25. Alyssabeth Cottle and Elise Cormany each posted a mark of 9-06.25 in pole vault to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively. It was a new PR for each as they now share the 4th highest vault in HU program history.

Holly Holton also established a new personal best in weight throw with her toss of 36-09.50 that earned her 5th place honors at the meet and the 9th spot in the Forester record books.

Jessica Chojnakci brought home a 1st place finish in the 600 meters by clocking in at 1:46.11, the 9th fastest time in program history. Nicole Pennington placed in both the 60 meters (4th, 8.21) and the 200 meters (7th, 27.56).

Other point getters for HU included Aspen Dirr in the mile (8th, 5:46.41), the 4×400 meter relay team (4th, 4:26.82) and Emily Wellsand in shot put (6th, 32-07.50) and weight throw (7th, 32-02).

Indiana Tech, last year’s national champs, claimed the women’s title with 150 points followed by Trine (117.5), Adrian (88.5), HU (57), Indiana Tech Developmental (55) and Rochester (10).

HU competes in the first ever Crossroads League Invitational hosted by Indiana Wesleyan next weekend.
