Hotel Amenities: The collection has begun!

Colleagues:
Last year, students on the Civil Rights J-term trip collected the free hotel amenities and contributed them to Place of Grace, a local ministry for women rebuilding their lives. This year, Place of Grace currently has enough amenities. However, in February I can bring hotel amenities to incarcerated women when I go to visit the Logan Correctional Complex in Illinois. (I will be doing a workshop on the Indiana poet Mari Evans there.) I can bring soaps, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, and coffee packs. If you want to spend a few bucks on trial size toothpastes, I can take those too. I am checking on tea packets and the coffee condiments. I can not bring amenities packaged in glass, aerosols, floss, mouthwash, and the pens–though I am willing to collect these for another place if you know where they can be used.

Please encourage your students to collect these for the women in the Logan prison during your j-term trips, and please collect these in your own travels during January. If we pack our own amenities for our travels in January, we can get a number of free amenities in just a few days of J-term trips. I am willing to collect these in my office until my trip to Logan. Your help with this will be greatly appreciated.

The collection has begun!

Blessings
